Euskal Herria Bildu has prepared a short dossier for the journalists attending the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The aim of this dossier is introducing our visitors to the reality of the Basque Country – Euskal Herria. We know that most of our visitors have been told they came to Spain and therefore we have tried to explain to them, the history of our Country, the reality of its inhabitants and its political situation.
We have covered several examples of Basque sport teams to present our national reality. To show how despite the lack of official recognition, the Basque Country, its 7 provinces are a reality for the Basque people.
We have also provided background information on the conflict, the attempts for resolution and the current process. We have highlighted the Conference of Aiete, as we understand that it sums up all the elements for the resolution of the conflict. We have also pointed the attitude of the Spanish and French Governments, their lack of commitment and their attempts to block the process through the situation of prisoners.
We have provided information of the situation of Basque Political prisoners including thethree main concerns their situation raises at this moment. First: The policy of dispersion (keeping prisoners dispersed and as far as possible from their places of origin). Second: The refusal to release seriously ill prisoners. And third: the incarceration of people condemned for belonging to political organisations and the ongoing legal processes against them.
EHBildu wants to welcome all the people visiting the Basque Country these days, we want to wish them the happiest of stays and hope they enjoy their time among us.
