Since the tragic disappearance and death of three young Israelis we have witnessed a collective punishment against the Palestinian population with the arrests of hundreds of people, thousands of homes raided, if not destroyed, and dozens of Palestinians dead (including children), in a balance of death that increases as time passes.
The military escalation has gone in crescendo in the past hours, with night time bombings, the accumulation of tanks and reservists on the frontier and the launching of rockets and missiles to Israeli territory from Gaza.
The generalized attacks on Gaza, one of the most populated zones in the world, on the part of Israel constitute a violation of the principles of proportionality, precaution and of differencing between combatants and civilians, as sustained by international law and must be categorically rejected. Far from resolving anything, the only thing that these attacks are achieving is aggravating the situation and increasing the instability in the region, apart from producing an endless amount of civil victims who have nothing to do with the conflict.
It is for that that from EH Bildu we make an urgent call for the cease of the violent escalation and we again reiterate the necessity of a solution through dialogue and negotiation to the conflict based on the resolutions of the United Nations. As well as the complete respect for Human Rights in all cases.
The government of national unity promoted by different Palestinian formations, far from being a threat, as Israel interprets it, must be considered as an opportunity and a step in the right direction, given that the united voice of the Palestinian people facilitates any solution.
Only a process of inclusive dialogue and negotiation, which carries with it the recognition of viable Palestinian state, with frontiers recognized by the United Nations, can give a solution to this conflict, the cause of enormous suffering and permanent instability in the region.
